2-bromo-2-nitopropan 1.3-dol (bronopol)
Preservative, carcinogenic effects.
Bronopoly is an organic compound. It is a colorless to light brown -gray, crystalline solid.
In cosmetics, it is used as an effective preservative, prevents or slows the growth of microbes and thus protects cosmetic products from depreciation. It is part of personal care products (especially shampoos, creams, lotions and makeup), but we can also find it in cleaning and detergents.
The bronopoly can irritate the eyes and increase the skin sensitivity. It is strongly allergenic - typical symptoms include redness, swelling, itching and blisters. It is highly reactive and also toxic to the environment. Bronopol can release formaldehyde in small quantities.
